How To Do A TIN Search on LHDN MyTax Portal

The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has launched a Tax Identification Number (TIN) search service to enhance tax administration under the Income Tax Act 1967 (ITA). This initiative is a key component of Budget 2025’s digitalization drive and aims to streamline tax processes for better efficiency.

What Are the TIN Search Access Points and Search Criteria?

The TIN search service is accessible through two primary channels:

  1. MyTax Portal: Individual taxpayers can use their identity card or passport number to initiate a TIN search. This platform provides a user-friendly interface for individuals to verify or retrieve their TIN conveniently.
  1. MyInvois Portal: Designed for businesses and organizations, this portal allows for TIN searches using the Business Registration Number (BRN) or the company name. This functionality streamlines the process of identifying the correct TIN for business transactions.

Does the TIN Search Function Work with e-Invoicing?

To facilitate the widespread adoption of e-Invoicing, the TIN search function is seamlessly integrated into the MyInvois portal and its Application Programming Interface (API). This integration enables software developers to incorporate TIN search capabilities directly into their e-Invoicing applications. The MyInvois Software Development Kit (SDK) provides developers with the necessary tools and documentation to leverage the API and integrate TIN search functionality into their systems.

Is My Data Safe When Doing A TIN Search?

The LHDN has prioritized user security and data integrity by integrating the TIN search service on the MyTax portal with MyDigital ID, a national digital identity verification platform. This integration leverages strong authentication mechanisms, ensuring that only authorized users can access and utilize the TIN search service. MyDigital ID enhances the overall security posture of the system by providing a robust layer of identity verification.

Each Search Only Displays One (1) Matching TIN Result

The TIN search service is designed to provide accurate and reliable results. When a search query is submitted, the system will return a single matching TIN based on the input criteria. This ensures that the correct TIN is identified and minimizes the risk of errors.

It is crucial to emphasize that the utilization of the TIN search function is strictly governed by the provisions of the ITA 1967. The LHDN has clearly defined the scope and permissible uses of the service to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.

What Are The Benefits of The TIN Search Feature?

  • Centralized database: The implementation of the TIN search service relies on a robust and centralized database that stores and manages TIN information. This database serves as a single source of truth for all TIN-related inquiries.
  • API integration: Integrating the TIN search function into the MyInvois API enables seamless and automated retrieval of TIN information within e-Invoicing workflows. This streamlines business processes and reduces manual data entry.
  • Enhanced user experience: The integration with MyDigital ID enhances the user experience by providing a secure and convenient authentication method. This eliminates the need for multiple logins and simplifies access to the TIN search service.
  • Improved tax compliance: By providing a convenient and accurate means of obtaining TIN information, the LHDN aims to improve tax compliance among taxpayers. This can lead to increased tax revenue and a more efficient tax administration system.

In conclusion, the launch of the TIN search service represents a significant step forward in the modernization of Malaysia’s tax administration system. By leveraging technology and digital platforms, the LHDN aims to create a more efficient, user-friendly, and secure tax environment for all stakeholders.
