On 19 August 2024, Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, CEO of Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), announced that LHDN will carry out a joint operation with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) to inspect over a thousand businesses in Klang Valley.
This joint operation will involve 1,000+ officers from both government departments and take place from Monday (Aug 19) to Thursday (Aug 22). The collaboration aims to improve overall tax compliance among taxpayers and enhance the efficiency of tax management.
This operation will mainly focus on five activities:
- tax audits
- tax investigations
- tax collections
- legal actions, and
- business census visits
JKDM officers will focus on business census visits aimed at expanding the tax base by identifying potential service providers for registration. Meanwhile, LHDN officers will target taxpayers engaged in cash economy activities, including foreigners running businesses.
It is hoped that this synergy will continue to be strengthened to ensure tax compliance and expand the tax revenue base.
